Casey Klemmer is a humanitarian aid worker and advocate for LGBTQ rights working in Samos, Greece. He holds a master’s in social justice and human rights and a bachelor’s in women and gender studies with a minor in LGBTQ studies, both from George Mason University.
Since graduating from George Mason, Klemmer has traveled in Europe working directly with refugees to provide psychosocial support and essential services, including distribution of clothing, food, and hygiene items. He has worked on the border in Greece, Serbia, and Morocco. He is currently working in a project focused on sharing skills like maintenance, barbering, cooking, and sewing, to help refugees find work after gaining asylum in Greece. He also facilitates a support group for LGBTQ asylum seekers, creating a safe space for expression and community building.
When he is not working, Klemmer enjoys spending time with his friends at the beach, reading, dancing, and trying to teach his dog, Jasper, to swim.
