BA American Studies '92, MA History '99
Robert Vay has been associated with George Mason University for more than two-thirds of his life. Enrolling in the fall of 1985, he completed his BA in 1992 after taking a break from school and changing majors from physical education to American studies. After graduating, he was employed by the National Archives and Records Administration, later returning to work as an archivist in the George Mason University Libraries in December of 1993. He completed his MA in history from George Mason in January 1999.
Vay has been with the Libraries in the Special Collections Research Center for more than 32 years and serves as the university archivist. In this role, he is responsible for acquiring, preserving, and creating access to university records which document the history and development of our university. He works closely with the university’s administrative and academic units to collect their permanent historical records and to help them use these records to tell their stories to the university community and the public.
Vay lives in Dumfries with his wife of 28 years, Amy, their daughter Cassie, and their Siberian Huskies, Ginger and Grizzly Bear.
