The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) has a distinguished faculty of more than 400, including recipients of the Pulitzer Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, and Fulbright Scholar Awards. Our faculty take great pride in being active scholar-teachers and are instrumental in Mason’s attainment of the R-1 Doctoral University (Highest Research Activity) classification. Research is a vital part of the undergraduate and graduate student experience here.
As a CHSS student, you will be taught by faculty members who are not only experts in their subject area, but are actively engaged in their fields of study, bringing a real-world perspective to the classroom.
- Our programs emphasize challenge, opportunity, and success.
- We teach students to think critically and creatively and to go beyond what is required by pursuing research experiences, minors, double majors, honors in the major, and accelerated bachelor’s to master’s degree programs, which enable them to earn both an undergraduate and a graduate degree, often within five years.
- We provide many opportunities beyond the classroom, including study abroad programs, service learning, internships, and career-enhancing courses and minors, all of which will help you prepare for success beyond college.
