David Huchler

Chief David Huchler served with the City of Alexandria Police Department for 26 years before being appointed chief of police for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority in April 2018.  

As chief of police for the Airports Authority, he directs all police operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, and along the Dulles Toll Road. Under his leadership, the department has undergone a strategic reorganization to better serve the unique community of the Airports Authority. He has implemented advanced technologies to prevent, detect, and investigate crime and terrorism, embraced evidence-based crime policies to enhance service delivery, and maintained a strong focus on public safety while upholding exceptional customer service standards. 

Chief Huchler is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and a master’s degree in public administration from George Mason University. In addition to his leadership role, he serves as an adjunct instructor in George Mason’s Department of Criminology, Law and Society and is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Police Executive Research Forum.
