Nena Rogers

BSEd Health Education '89, MAIS '19

Nena Rogers is entering her 27th year with George Mason University Athletics, where she currently serves as the deputy athletics director for student services and performance and the department’s senior woman administrator. She previously served as interim assistant vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics during the 2022–23 academic year, leading George Mason through a period of competitive and academic success.  

Rogers currently oversees academic services, student-athlete development programming, and the Dr. Frank Pettrone Center for Sports Performance, ensuring a holistic approach to student-athlete development. Under her leadership, George Mason student-athletes consistently exceed a 3.0 GPA, with more than 400 earning Provost Scholar honors since 2016. Rogers also serves as a sport supervisor for women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s lacrosse, and wrestling, and represents the department in Atlantic 10 and other leadership roles. 

Born into a military family, Rogers spent her formative years in Karlsruhe, Germany, where her father served in the U.S. Army. She attended high school there, competing in multiple sports, which led her to George Mason as a standout student-athlete. A former NCAA champion and Olympic qualifier, Rogers holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from George Mason. 

She currently resides in Woodbridge, Virginia, with her husband Dennis, and is the mother of two daughters, Maya and Kai.
