Abby Picard

BSW '18

Abby Picard is a macro social worker and sexual and domestic violence advocate with a background in crisis response, community outreach, program planning, and relationship and sexuality education. She holds a master’s of social work from Virginia Commonwealth University and a bachelor’s of social work with a minor in women and gender studies from George Mason University.

She is a former Mason peer educator and advocate on sex and sexuality, dating violence, healthy relationships, and LGBTQIA+ issues and identity. She decided to pursue her career in sexual violence advocacy after one year in which after every single peer workshop (of dozens) a participant disclosed an experience of sexual assault or abuse.

Picard currently serves as the Human Trafficking and Sexual Violence Coordinator for Fairfax County Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, where she coordinates the countywide responses to sexual violence and human trafficking. She is passionate about community led violence prevention and intervention and the intersection of sexual and domestic violence with reproductive justice.

She is a fan of comics and superhero media, cooking and eating food with loved ones, and hosting elaborate game nights.
