Holly Mason Badra

MFA '17

Holly Mason Badra received her bachelor’s degree in English (minor in dance) from UNC-Greensboro in 2011 and her master of fine arts in creative writing (poetry) in 2017 and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Administration (2022) from George Mason University.

Her poetry and creative nonfiction are published in various journals online and in print—and she has been a contributing writer to Ranger Rick: a National Wildlife Federation magazine for children. Lately, her publications focus on highlighting the work of Kurdish female and nonbinary writers and translators.

Currently, Badra is the associate director of women and gender studies at George Mason University. She also serves as the faculty advisor for the Kurdish Student Organization, a member of President Washington’s Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence Task Force, a member of the CHSS Working Group for Staff Professional Development and the CHSS Inclusive Excellence Advisory Council, as well as the Executive Committee Secretary of the LGBTQ+ Faculty Staff Alliance. Two highlights of her time at Mason: meeting her wife here and receiving the 2022 Rose Pascarell and Ric Chollar Professional Service Award honoring staff who collaborate to serve, support, and advance efforts for the LGBTQ+ community.
