Bio: Alicia Muir graduated from George Mason University summa cum laude in 2018 with a degree in Global Affairs. While at Mason, she was an admissions ambassador and an active member of the Honors College, where she was a founding member of the Honors College recruitment team and a peer research mentor. Some of her favorite memories at Mason arise from her time interning for a U.S. senator and when she studied abroad at the University of Oxford.

After graduating, Alicia attended law school at William and Mary Law school where she concentrated in environmental law. During law school, Alicia interned for the PA Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Department of Maritime Administration and was the Managing Editor of the Environmental Law and Policy Review. Following her graduation, Alicia moved to Lancaster, PA and has specialized in civil litigation. In her free time, Alicia loves to travel, read and spend time with friends and family.

If you were starting your career today, what is the one piece of advice you would give yourself? I would remind myself that you don't have to have it all figured out yet. It’s normal not to know exactly where you’re headed. Your career will evolve through exploration, unexpected turns, and learning about yourself over time. Just take the next right step, give it your all and be open to where that takes you.

In what ways has your career path been unique or unconventional? My career path has been unique I've had the opportunity to work across state lines, which exposed me to different legal environments and broadened my perspective in ways staying in one place never could. Along the way, I’ve worked in government roles, alongside solo practitioners and in both small firms and large firms. Each setting taught me something different — from the agility and personal connection of solo practice to the complex teamwork and resources of larger firms, and the public service mindset of government work.

What skills or experiences have been most valuable in your career? I think the most valuable experiences in my career have been my internship opportunities. They provided a hands-on environment where I could apply what I learned academically and get a real sense of the day-to-day work involved in different settings. These experiences gave me the chance to explore various roles and responsibilities early on, which was crucial in helping me understand not just what I’m passionate about, but also what doesn’t fit me.

I believe it’s just as important to learn what you don’t like as it is to discover what excites you. My internship experiences helped me refine my career goals and focus on environments and roles where I can thrive.
