Nicole Chulick

Nicole Ann Chulick, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, serves as deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL), at the U.S. Department of State where she oversees the bureau’s Europe and South and Central Asia Offices. She joined DRL after serving as deputy chief of mission in Accra, Ghana, from July 2021 to August 2023. Prior to that, she served in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs (GPA), first as principal deputy assistant secretary and then as acting assistant secretary. While working as the principal deputy coordinator for the bureau of International Information Programs (IIP), she planned and oversaw the creation of GPA through the merger of IIP with the Bureau of Public Affairs.  
Chulick has also served as acting office director for press and public diplomacy in the Bureau for South and Central Asian Affairs, and as chief of staff for the director general of human resources. Additionally, she was the counselor for public affairs in Sri Lanka and the press officer in Nepal.  
A recipient of numerous state department Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards, she has also served in Nicaragua and Hong Kong. Before joining the Foreign Service, Chulick was the national spokesperson for the U.S. Border Patrol. She has studied Spanish, Cantonese, and Nepali and holds a master’s degree from Georgetown University and a BA from George Mason University.
