Jacelyn L. Tyson

MA Higher Education and Student Development '21

Jacelyn L. Tyson is the director of human resources for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at George Mason University. As director, she co-chairs the college’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team and serves as an ex-officio member of the CHSS Classified Staff and Administrative Faculty Advisory Council. She has served on Mason’s faculty and staff experience committee, presidential inauguration committee, four vice presidential searches, and led numerous initiatives centered around increasing employee engagement, satisfaction, and wellbeing.  
 
A staunch advocate of the transformative power of higher education, Tyson has spent her career working at Virginia’s public colleges and universities. She recognizes the direct role faculty and staff play in student success. Believing the greatest successes in the workplace are achieved when people intersect with their passions and purpose, Jacelyn’s work focuses on fostering the alignment of these three areas.   
 
Tyson earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and her master’s degree in higher education administration from George Mason University. She is a member of the national and local chapters of the Society of Human Resource Management.
