Liz Andrews

PhD Cultural Studies '19

Liz Andrews is an artist, curator, museum professional, and leader who is dedicated to the arts and social justice. She has worked with arts organizations across the nation and has served as executive director of the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art since August of 2021. Among many curatorial projects, she co-curated Black American Portraits, an exhibition that reframes portraiture to center Black American subjects, sitters, and spaces and includes artworks spanning over 200 years. She also co-edited and contributed to a companion publication entitled Black American Portraits, which was published in February 2023.  
 
Andrews was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and attributes her commitment to justice to her father, attorney Irving P. Andrews. She graduated from East High School, holds a BA in American studies from Wesleyan University, a MA in arts politics from the NYU Tisch School of Arts, and a PhD in cultural studies from George Mason University.
