During the MS research practicum course, Kelsey built a strong research project with the DC-Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program. Throughout her time in the MS program, she has also developed a great command of the academic scholarship, while participating fully in the initiatives of the MS program to enhance the reputation of the program and department.

In addition to a strong GPA, her capstone thesis on the experiences of queer Middle Eastern women in the United States offers a highly original contribution to literature on transnational sexualities, migration and diaspora, and queer ethnography.

Sahar’s dissertation explores the symbolic representation of the Green Movement in Iran, a cycle of anti-government protests that took place following the contentious presidential election of 2009.

Their research calls for a braided approach derived from Indigenous Studies that interrogates developmental stress and disease across the lifespan from a social, communal, and household perspective to better understand colonial violence and resilience in these communities.

For her dissertation, Heather used advanced decision tree modeling with machine learning techniques in order to create a model to better predict whether specific crimes in which the offender is unknown might be committed by a juvenile.

Polina is interested in immigration research and a career in public policy. She has also interned at the Cardinal Institute, the Atlas Leadership Academy, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Eurasia Foundation.

Riley is completing a dissertation on feminist activism and social media, one whose significance and rigorousness have already earned her two academic job offers, including one at the University of Amsterdam. Recipient of a CHR Dissertation Fellowship, she has also amassed a significant publication record.
