Describe your dissertation, thesis, or capstone (if you completed one):
For our practicum project, my research partner and I analyzed the relationship between workload, burnout, resilience, and turnover intentions using data collected from our organizations and from our social networks.
How did your academic experiences in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences impact you?
I used to joke about how I wasn't the "type of person who would do something like this," preferring to stay in the safety of my comfort zone. During my time at Mason, though, I've not only been challenged by the coursework, but I've also been able to step outside of my comfort zone and grow beyond the (virtual) classroom walls.
Of which accomplishment(s) during your time at Mason are you most proud?
Collaborating on a conference proposal, which was ultimately accepted, with Dr. Afra Ahmad and a classmate. The panelists highlighted the unique experiences and needs of underrepresented minorities (URMs) as they pertain to virtual work, learning, and well-being.
Are there faculty or staff members who made a difference during your Mason career?
I am immensely grateful to Dr. Afra Ahmad for her support and belief in me even when I didn't believe in myself. Between balancing the responsibilities of being the MPS in I/O program director, teaching, and contributing as a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee, Dr. Ahmad still found the time to bring me onto an external speaking opportunity when she found out that I was interested in DEI.
Many thanks to Dr. Kevin Stagl, a fellow UCF Knight, for his career coaching and providing all of the articles and resources I could ever ask for (and then some!) on any given topic.
And last but certainly not least, Dr. Reeshad Dalal, for kindly inviting me to join his research lab and for helping hold me accountable for my goals.
What advice would you give to an incoming cohort of graduate students?
Step outside of your comfort zone and see what you're really capable of. You have a strong support system at Mason, so take that leap!
What are your current career plans following graduation? What are your long-term career goals?
My current career plans following graduation include finding a job where I can leverage my skills and competencies as an I/O psychology practitioner at an organization, working with clients to help them improve their employees' work experiences.
After spending some time in the private sector, I would like to use my knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience as an internal I/O psychologist for a government agency like the NSF or an international organization like the UN.
