How did you choose your specific area of study?
I chose what I was most familiar with and an area I thought I could make a difference in. Growing up speaking Spanish with my family made me want to study the language more in college.
How did your academic experiences in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences impact you?
I learned the importance of finding your voice, primarily when writing, but also in my personal life. As I grew as a better writer, I also began to learn more about my interests and advocate for my needs and desires.
Of which accomplishment(s) during your time at Mason are you most proud?
I am most proud of studying abroad at Oxford University through GEO´s study abroad office. I was proud that I was able to manage in a completely new academic environment under a rigor I had never experienced before. I learned so much more about myself and also about England.
Are there faculty or staff members who made a difference during your Mason career?
Lisa Rabin, Jennifer Leeman, Ellen Serafini, and Antonio Carreño
What advice would you give to an incoming cohort of graduate students?
Communicate with your professors if you are feeling swamped with work! In most cases, they also have a lot of work to do. You are not alone.
What are your current career plans following graduation? What are your long-term career goals?
Continue as a medical interpreter working with the MAP clinics. I hope to join the Peace Corps at some point as an agriculture sciences promoter and hopefully learn more about agriculture in general.
