Carla Burns
BA Foreign Languages '04, MA '05
A native of Perú, Carla Burns is an instructional associate professor in the department of Modern and Classical Languages at George Mason University. She holds a PhD from the Catholic University of America where her research focused on Latin American colonial and transatlantic studies with a concentration on religious women and their role in society. She also holds an MA in Spanish from George Mason University. She is currently working on a paleographic transcription of an 18th century religious manuscript from a convent in Mexico City.
Burns serves as faculty advisor for the Hispanic Culture Review, a bilingual graduate literary journal that publishes original poetry, essays, narratives, book reviews, photography and visual art both in Spanish and English. She began teaching at George Mason in the fall of 2014.
