Standardized Tests

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

All degree and certificate programs offered by the college require applicants to submit current GRE scores (not older than five years). When registering for the GRE test, use the institution code 5827 to identify George Mason University. Codes for specific departments are not necessary.

English Proficiency Standards

Regardless of your citizenship or national origin, applicants with international credentials from countries other than Australia, Canada (excluding the province of Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom are required to take an English proficiency examination and meet minimum scores set by Mason.  The following tests can be used to meet this requirements:

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English)

Pathway Programs

INTO Mason’s Undergraduate and Graduate Pathway programs are ideal for international students who may need additional English language and academic preparation before continuing to a bachelor’s or master’s degree program.

Foreign Language Proficiency Test

Applicants to the MA in global affairs need to present evidence of an advanced professional competency in a second language (other than English) that is widely used in contemporary international communication. Evidence of language competency may be demonstrated either through testing by Language Testing International or through other means approved by Global Affairs Program.
