What work are you doing now?

I am an Assistant Professor of History at the State University of New York, Cortland. I teach courses in African History, World History, and the History of Slavery.

Why did you choose to pursue the certificate in Digital Public Humanities?

I was interested in rethinking how history is being taught in the age of digital humanities. Could they be other approaches in which we can make history interesting to students of this digital age. The program answered my questions. It helped me rethink my teaching, incorporating digital tools. Students are more engaged in my courses now.

What knowledge or skills from the program have been particularly valuable to you?

The different digital tools I learned are helpful in my scholarship of teaching and learning. My courses are assigned a lab session where we use digital tools such as Omeka and Voyant to learn history. Students are introduced to textual analysis using digital tools and they create exhibits using Omeka.
