This conference will focus on how STEM oriented educational opportunities through high schools, registered apprenticeships, community colleges, and four-year institutions can all play a significant role in addressing urgent humanitarian needs, while also expanding the nation’s STEM workforce. At this conference participants will learn about the current refugee situation, how the Welcome Corps is a valuable addition to U.S. refugee resettlement policy, and how educational institutions can support this program. Speakers will be drawn from the U.S. State Department, D.C.-area think tanks, and representatives of all levels of the education system.

New Proposal Development Services from CHSS and GMU Office of Research Development

In collaboration with two faculty from CHSS (Heidi Lawrence and Douglas Eyman), the Office of Research Development is piloting grant writing feedback for faculty. There are two services provided: Copy Editing and Proposal Feedback. Faculty with nearly finalized proposals OR previously submitted proposals that failed to compete successfully in review will benefit from these pilots. We would appreciate it if you could share with your faculty.

NSF and NIH Updates

NSF will be decommissioning FastLane this September and effective October 23, 2023, the use of SciENcv will be mandatory for generating NSF-style biosketches and current and pending documents. Effective October 5, 2023, the NIH will no longer require a separate Data Management and Sharing line-item within the budget, however the costs that will be used for Data Management and Sharing, including personnel costs, should be noted within the budget justification.
