4-VA Collaborative Research Grants awarded to 11 Mason faculty members across disciplines

Backed by a statewide initiative, 4-VA@Mason has awarded 11 grants to Mason faculty for the 2021-2022 academic year, providing seed funding to launch innovations in education and original research. Cher Wexia Chen and Mills Kelly were awarded for new 4-VA@Mason research projects, and Kelly Schrum and E. Shelley Reid received funding for continuation and expansion of their 4-VA@Mason projects.

Mason receives Mellon Foundation grant to expand financial resilience in humanities research

Mason's Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, working with the Nonprofit Finance Fund, developed a proposal for establishing a new, resilient funding platform. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded Mason a grant of $1 million in change capital to support the center's business model development.

Mason will host a screening of Picture a Scientist followed by Q&A at the Johnson Center Cinema. PICTURE A SCIENTIST chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries - including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists - who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.
