The Schar School welcomes the Mason community to the 2021 CSPS Symposium, exploring Technology and the Future of Warfare. Speakers from the Defense Department, the private sector, and the research and academic worlds explore the forms of technology that will shape the battlefields of the future, along with policy challenges of setting rules for these technologies.

The CHSS Faculty Research and Development Awards (FRDA) seed funding applications are due September 24, 2021. A central purpose of FRDA Seed Funding Leading to External Funding (“FRDA Seed Funding”) is to provide seed funding that will lead to an application for external funding.

Join poet Phillip B. Williams virtually on Thursday, September 30, as part of the Fall 2021 Visiting Writers Series. The Crowdcast event will feature Williams in conversation with Mason MFA student Keene Carter. The series is hosted by Mason’s Creative Writing Program, University Libraries, and Watershed Lit.

Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education - International Foreign Language Education (IFLE) representatives give a presentation to familiarize attendees with the faculty-centered grant opportunities offered by IFLE.

The Human Rights and Global Justice Initiative, housed by the Institute for a Sustainable Earth (ISE), part of the continuous campus-wide effort to position Mason as a leader in inclusion and justice, will be hosting “Indigenous Rights and Environmental Justice: A Cross-cultural Conversation." Experts from Australia, Brazil, and the U.S., including Chief Frank Adams of the Upper Mattaponi Nation of Virginia, have been invited to share their experience and expertise.

Mason will host a screening of Picture a Scientist followed by Q&A at the Johnson Center Cinema. PICTURE A SCIENTIST chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries - including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists - who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.
