CHSS Digest February 4, 2021

Horizon Hall was conceived as a crossroads where faculty and students in many disciplines can meet and exchange ideas. This concept is embodied in the Word Wall that greets visitors in the atrium. On the ground floor of the building, adjacent to the MIX’s maker spaces, a three-story dynamic digital wall displays a kaleidoscope of quotations, juxtaposed in an ever-changing conversation of ideas. These quotes, contributed by the Mason community, appear in unexpected combinations, invite us to explore new contexts and meaning, and provide textual “windows” into global human history in a twenty-first-century academic building.

At Mason in February, we recognize Black and African Heritage Month. This time of reflection lends focus to our exchange of ideas and we welcome your contributions of texts you find meaningful. Now and into the future, please consider contributing to this ever-changing crossroads of ideas by submitting excerpts from your own lodestar texts, in all languages, to https://wordwall.gmu.edu.

We offer our thanks to the Spring 2019 Word Wall Working Group: Rei Berroa, Chair, MCL; Danny Collier, CHSS IT; Lisa Breglia, UAA; Chris Clarke, COMM; Wendi Manuel-Scott, Integrative Studies, HIST; Rashmi Sadana, SOAN; and Garry Sparks, RELI.

Warm Regards,

Ann Ardis,
Dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences
