We are pleased to announce that Mason will be hosting a virtual Winter Graduation for the Class of 2020. All 2020 graduates, from spring, summer, and fall, are invited to participate.
We are proud of our students and everything they have accomplished in your time at Mason. Celebrating your achievements is important to all of us in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) community.
We invite you to join us for a celebration of your efforts and achievements at 2 pm on Thursday, December 17, 2020 for Mason’s virtual Winter Graduation, broadcast on GMU-TV. This event will include a conferral of degrees by President Washington and congratulatory messages from the deans of Mason’s colleges and schools. It will also feature a brief message from a member of the Class of 2020, a student performance, and special guests wishing you well. We hope you will take the time to celebrate your accomplishments and invite friends and family to join you.
Following the main event, the college’s is hosting a degree celebration with Dean Ann Ardis, who will share her own remarks. Our class recognition will feature each graduate – by name, through individual student slides. These personalized slides will show each student’s name, degree, major, and college.
The slides are presented through a platform called Marching Order, a virtual platform and hub. Please register and submit information for your slide; you can submit your photo and messages to personalize the slide by December 3.
Students have received an email with more information and additional specific details about what we can all look forward to during the celebration event.
The college will also host a special recognition for our new PhD graduates at 3:30 pm on December 17. This event will last approximately one hour. It will be hosted, live, by Dean Ann Ardis, and include pre-recorded and live remarks given by President Washington, Provost Ginsberg, and the college’s Associate Dean for Graduate Affairs Marguerite Rippy. Each student’s name will be read aloud by Professor Mills Kelly in honor of your accomplishments. At the conclusion of the ceremony, we will share a toast in honor of your hard work and achievement!
All graduating doctoral students who wish to participate are asked to register beforehand. The Zoom link to the event will be provided to registered students the day before the event. You may then share it with family, friends, your committee members, and other faculty. Please do not post or share the event link in public spaces, such as social media accounts.
