Arts & Humanities Discussion Series: faculty dialogue, music and history
Monday, November 2, 2026 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM EST
Merten Hall, 1202, Zoom is also available
Please join the planning committee for the future Institute of Humanities and the Arts as we host a faculty discussion on the theme "Music and History."
For our first hour together, Matt Karush (History and Art History, CHSS) and Emily Green (School of Music, CVPA) will interview each other, highlighting for us how their thinking about and approaches to music differ. Both are engaged in research on music and the history of music, and previously led a book group dedicated to these themes, "Music and Society," under the Center for Humanities Research. Let's see what they have to say about how a new Institute for Humanities and the Arts could support community and connection like the one they created.
The second half of the event will be devoted to audience Q&A and a group discussion of what sort of space a new Institute for Humanities and the Arts could and should be on our campus. Please bring your questions and perspectives to inform the development of a charter proposal for the new entity.
Faculty, students, staff all warmly invited.
RSVP is required.
Lunch will be provided.
Advance reading from our speakers will be available, but is by no means required. It will be delivered with your confirmation.
