Arts & Humanities: a discussion series featuring Antoinette Burton (virtual event)

Please join the planning committee for the future Institute of Humanities and the Arts as we host Antoinette Burton, former Director of the Humanities Research Institute at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and PI on a number of major public humanities grants, including the Mellon Foundation funded initiative, Humanities Without Walls ($12.2 million). Antoinette brings a wealth of experience in bridging the arts and humanities and extending university impact into the community.

The first half of the event will feature Antoinette in conversation with Catherine Olien, Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives, Humanities and Arts, George Mason.

The second half will be an open Q&A and group discussion intended to shape the vision and charter proposal for the future Institute for Humanities and the Arts (launching fall 2027). Faculty, students, and staff from across the university are encouraged to attend and participate-- the planning committee wants to hear from you, and Antoinette is a tremendous resource for us at this stage.

Ann Ardis, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, will deliver the opening remarks.
