Faculty Fellows: 2020 Call for Applications

Institute for a Sustainable Earth (ISE)

Friday, October 16, 2020

The Institute for a Sustainable Earth (ISE) seeks applications from Mason faculty for ISE’s Faculty Fellows program. With the mission of making connections across the Mason community and with policymakers, businesses, and other organizations to put research and scholarship into action, ISE will develop the following 6 research themes:

• Human health, wellbeing, and capabilities
• Sustainable and resilient communities and ecosystems
• Harnessing the digital revolution for sustainability and education for all
• Clean energy, decarbonization, and climate action
• Enhancing equality, equity, and access to basic goods and services
• Peace, justice, and strong institutions to support thriving economies

ISE’s Faculty Fellows will serve as community-building catalysts who support the development of transdisciplinary communities of research and practice around these focal areas. With the support of the ISE team, each Fellow will lead efforts to develop one of the research themes. ISE Faculty Fellows will also participate in and contribute to the strategic development of ISE. In a letter of interest, applicants should outline a creative plan for community development within their identified ISE research theme – including, for example, strategies for developing transdisciplinary teams, facilitating research and project development, and establishing community and stakeholder partnerships. Modest funds will be available to support community building activities.

While ISE aims to host six fellows, only two or three Fellows will be selected in this first competition. No preference regarding ISE research theme will be given this year. Following a successful pilot cohort and pending funding, future competitions will be held to establish and maintain a full cohort of fellows.
