Section Information for Fall 2026
In this section of HIST 499, students will write a lengthy research paper, approximately 20-25 pages, based on primary and secondary source research examining the history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. During the semester, students will explore how the slave trade shaped not only the history of the United States, but also the history of people in Africa, Europe, the Americas, and beyond. Students will choose a specific topic of focus for their paper, such as examining specific events or individuals that influenced the forced migration of people, exploring a particular life-history of an individual involved, or specific acts of resistance.
