This course examines Virginia history from the cataclysm of the Civil War through the sweeping social changes of the civil rights era and the late 20th century. Students will learn about politics, social movements, and Virginia’s changing economy and place within the nation and the world. Historical memory and the teaching of Virginia history in schools will also be important topics.
