Section Information for Fall 2025

How have digital platforms and streaming media transformed culture? What is new and not so new about the social experiences and industry practices associated with the rise of streaming? This course explores genres and case studies from around world, and media ranging from film, television, gaming and music, but also influencer cultures, livestreaming, platform activism and protest movements, A.I., and the infrastructural bases and ecological consequences of streaming technology. Students will become familiar with a range of critical approaches.
