Alumnus Antonio Maradiaga Introduces the Twinpanzee Brewing Company

Antonio Maradiaga wears many hats: he is an alumnus of George Mason University (and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences), who graduated with degrees in English and psychology in 2007. He is a native of Fairfax County. He is the father to two young twin boys and is a beer lover. And he hopes to bring all of these elements together to launch Fairfax’s first family owned nano-brewery.

Antonio has launched a campaign on the Kickstarter funding platform, seeking to raise funds to launch the Twinpanzee Brewing Company.

The brewery is truly a family affair. Antonio and his wife, Maha, have worked together to develop the recipes for his brews, and the brewery’s unusual name was suggested by their son Adan. Adan’s twin, Zachary, is helping to plan a kids’ play area in the proposed brewery space.

Antonio is searching out potential sites here in Fairfax, close to Mason, with the goal of sharing the fresh crafted beer with his fellow alumni, current and future. The Mardiaga family prides itself on introducing fresh and unique flavorings to its brews, with the unofficial motto: “Reinheitsgebot be damned!” in reference to the 500 year old German brewery law that beer must be made with only water, barley, hops, and yeast. Some of their nontraditional flavors have included a Bourbon Vanilla Porter, Grapefruit Hefeweitzen, and Citra IPA.
