College Features Food, Fun and Basketball at Tailgate

What do you get when you mix delicious food, refreshing beverages, fun games, outstanding prizes, high-quality music, the George Mason Patriot mascot and an exciting basketball game? With the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, you get one extraordinary day.

On Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, the college will host the 7th Annual CHSS Tailgate between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Mason Hall Atrium on the Fairfax campus. Immediately after the tailgate, at 5 p.m., Mason’s men’s basketball team takes on their Colonial Athletic Association rival, the Hofstra Pride, at the Patriot Center.

Tickets for the tailgate are $5 per individual. Buy your tickets at the link to the right.

Admission to the tailgate includes food, one free beer/wine ticket, beverages, entry into a raffle, corn hole, and the chance to socialize with fellow college alumni and guests. Kids 12 and under attend for free, and will have their own activities for their entertainment. The Mason cheerleaders will be there, as will the Mason Patriot mascot, the a cappella group GMUnit, the Green Machine band and even President Ángel Cabrera.

In addition, tailgate attendees can purchase discounted tickets for the game against Hofstra, paying only $11.50 for $23 tickets.

To purchase discounted men's basketball tickets for the 5 p.m. Hofstra game following the tailgate, visit the Ticketmaster link and enter "CHSS" as the special offer code. The tickets will be available for pick up at the tailgate (not at Will Call), or attendees may print them at home ahead of time. Children 2 and older require a ticket.

Don Rouzer, BIS ’07, a regular attendee of the annual tailgate, finds the event both entertaining and fulfilling.

"I really enjoy the fun atmosphere that the tailgate generates, and the Mason cheerleaders and CHSS staff get everyone into the school spirit before the game," Rouzer said. "As an older working student, I was fortunate enough to have my company pay for my [Mason] tuition, so now I feel that I should support the university financially to enable less fortunate students the benefit of attending Mason."

One thing is for certain: having a great time was never this easy.
