College Celebrates Alumni Weekend With Special Event
Alumni at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences beer tasting event enjoyed meeting their old friends and classmates.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences recognized George Mason University’s annual Alumni Weekend celebration by hosting a social event for alumni and their families.

Over 100 alumni and guests attended the Oct. 1 event in the Johnson Center’s Dewberry Hall. They reconnected with friends and former classmates, and networked with other alumni. The event featured a beer tasting menu from local brewery Dogfish Head Alehouse. The college gave away Mason pint glasses to the first 50 registrants.

Jack Censer, dean of the college, was on hand to greet and interact with alumni and guests, and briefly welcomed the audience with an update on the state of the college.

"The event was great," he said. "We had a huge turnout with lots of interesting alums. I met new people and intersected with several former students."

Event organizer Toby Hettler, assistant director of development in the college, thought the event was a great opportunity for alumni to gather in a relaxed atmosphere.

"Everyone seemed to be really enjoying the event," Hettler said. "The goal was to give alumni and guests  an opportunity to see old friends and meet new ones, while enjoying some delicious food and refreshments."

Given the success of this year's event, the college plans to host it annually.
