Graduate Students Begin Upper-Level Education With Orientation

New graduate students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences get their first look at their new home during the graduate student welcome reception on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts.

The orientation allows new students to meet faculty members and other entering students while browsing information tables set up by various departments and programs. New students can also get advice from current graduate students and talk to representatives from various university services, such as Career Services, the University Library and Learning Support Services.

Matt Zingraff, associate dean for research and graduate programs, said the new student reception is a perfect welcome to the George Mason University campus and community.

"Our graduate programs offer rigorous education and training and help prepare our students to enter the community of scholars," Zingraff said. "Regardless of whether our students intend to join the academy, or contribute to the workforce, graduates of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences know that they will graduate with solid preparation."
