Nguyen Earns Fulbright Senior Specialist Award

Hung Nguyen, associate professor of government and international relations at George Mason University, earned a Fulbright Senior Specialist grant to conduct seminars on American foreign policy and U.S-Vietnam relations at the Diplomatic Academy and the Institute for Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies in Hanoi.

This is Nguyen’s third Fulbright award. He received his first in 1960, a scholarship to study in the United States as a Vietnamese graduate student. The second time, in 2006, he obtained a Fulbright scholarship to conduct research in Vietnam as an American scholar.

Senior Fulbright Specialists are selected by the Fulbright program to be sent to countries that require their expertise and request their services.

Nguyen was in Hanoi when the country marked the 15th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States. Nguyen participated in two conferences involving both Vietnamese and American scholars. He spoke to members of such organizations and agencies as the Institute for Defense Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Defense, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration and the Central Theoretical Council of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
