Dean's Note - February 2010

Over the course of the past year it feels as if Washington, DC has become the center of the universe.  The economic crisis has brought renewed attention to the nation’s capital, as we enter a new era in the life of the financial markets, health care reform, and much more.  Due to the tough challenges we are facing as a nation, there is an increasing need for individuals who can tackle the complex issues of a globalizing world.

In light of this, I am proud to announce the upcoming Open House for the Master’s Program in Global Affairs on Tuesday, February 9 at 6:00 p.m. in Mason Hall D-3.  The Master of Arts in Global Affairs is an interdisciplinary program offering students the opportunity to engage in advanced study of a broad range of international global issues. Our students are prepared for exciting careers in a wide range of fields: global business, global health, the environment, global culture, peace studies, and many others. Graduates work in a variety of professional contexts, including government agencies, corporations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), development agencies, and international organizations.

The format for the evening is as follows:

  • 20 Minute lecture by Dr. Cemil Aydin, director of the new center for Global Islamic Studies
  • 5 Minute presentation by current student, Shannon Pacheco
  • 15 Minute Q&A/How to Apply with Dr. T. Mills Kelly, Associate Dean for Enrollment

To obtain more information, or to RSVP, email Emily at globalma@gmu.edu.

My hope for 2010 is that more alumni will consider furthering their education by enrolling in one of our many graduate programs.  Take a moment and view the various degrees and certificates we offer.  I hope to see you back on campus soon!

Yours in Patriot Pride,

Jack Censer
