Congratulations to the CHSS recipients of the 2025 Outstanding Achievement Awards

We are thrilled to announce that three dedicated employees from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences have been selected as recipients of the 2025 Outstanding Achievement Awards! These prestigious awards recognize the hard work, dedication, and significant contributions of our university community members.

This year’s selection process saw an incredible 146% increase in nominations compared to 2024, underscoring the competitive nature of the awards. Being chosen from such a large pool is a great honor, and we are proud to celebrate these outstanding individuals.

  • Jenna McGwin, director of operations and initiatives in the CHSS Dean's Office, was honored with the Excellence in Action Award. Jenna’s remarkable leadership and dedication to enhancing the operational efficiency of CHSS have significantly impacted the college’s success.
  • Tamara Harvey, department chair and associate professor in the Department of English, received the Rick Holt Active Transportation Advocate Award. Tamara's passion for utilizing, promoting, and advocating for the use of active transportation as part of their daily commute life has positively influenced the campus community.
  • Barbara Burfeind, adjunct faculty member in the Department of Communication, was honored with the Adjunct Faculty Service Award. Barbara’s exceptional commitment to her students and her significant contributions to the department have made her a standout member of the George Mason community.

These individuals will be celebrated at the Outstanding Achievement Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 15, 10–11:30 a.m. in the Johnson Center, Dewberry Hall. We encourage all members of the Mason community to join us in celebrating their achievements either in person or through the live stream on GMU-TV
