The Institute for Immigration Research (IIR) is pleased to welcome Oguzhan Dursun as a Visiting Scholar. Oguzhan applies an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on his expertise in history, film studies, and oral history. His research explores the history of emotions, particularly how emotions shape and reflect societal conflicts and transformations.
At IIR, Oguzhan will focus on the Turkish and Greek diaspora communities, studying their interactions, conflicts, and emotional dynamics. He will examine long-standing ties and tensions within these communities, using sources like oral histories, films, events, and archival material. His work seeks to uncover how emotions like fear, pride, and nostalgia shape social dynamics and contribute to broader societal change.
With a Ph.D. in History and a master's in Cinema & TV, Oguzhan brings a unique perspective. His previous research on social change in Türkiye through film characters, combined with media experience, will enrich his contributions to IIR’s research on immigrant communities and their impact on societal transformation.
