Each year, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences presents the Mary Roper award, which honors members of its classified staff that have made outstanding contributions to the college.

This award seeks to commend those whom have consistently demonstrated excellent performance, commitment, and dedication to the college. Winners have supported the goals of the department and college through their work with faculty, students, staff or the greater university community.

The award is named for Mary Roper, presently the administrative assistant to the chief of staff, who worked in the department of biology and in the college dean’s office for a total of 14 years.

This year's winners are Karen Secrist from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Andy Privee from the Center for History and New Media.

Secrist and Privee will be honored in a reception on Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. in George Mason University’s Center for the Arts (third floor lobby). At the reception, the college will also recognize other exemplary staff members.
