How can I find funding?

Did you know that Mason has a license to SPIN, a web-based information resource and searchable database for federal and non-federal funding opportunities? It includes the InfoEd Commerce Business Daily and a SPIN keyword thesaurus. It also provides listings of upcoming deadlines and allows you to customize your own e-mail notifications of funding information using SMARTS/GENIUS. There are two ways that you can access this resource:

  1. Access SPIN on-campus or through off-campus VPN to perform basic searches (see Engaging with SPIN Anonymously training video for functionality details), or;
  2. Sign up for a personal account to create funding alters and save custom funding opportunity searches.

Check out the SPIN training videos to help you get started and generate more meaningful results. These videos are short, sweet, and to the point. CHSS recommends checking out the following:

  • Conducting a Basic Search
  • Exploring the Primary SPIN tabs
  • Saving Searches
  • Managing SMART Funding Alerts
  • Conducting an InfoEd Keyword Search – both the explorer tab and searcher tab

George Mason University also sponsored an additional SPIN Training, accessible through the Mason network.
