Faculty and staff required to take Civility and Violence Prevention Training

As part of Mason’s commitment to improving community safety through a collaborative and thoughtful approach to preventing and managing situations that pose a threat to the safety and well-being of the campus community, a cross-Mason committee has created a training that provides information and resources. ALL university employees are required to participate in Civility and Violence Prevention Training. On Sept. 13, Human Resources & Payroll assigned Civility and Violence Prevention Training to employees’ MasonLEAPS accounts. Everyone should have also received an email notifying them of this assigned training. To launch the training, login to MasonLEAPS and select “Launch: Civility and Violence Prevention Training” from the “Your Action Items” box on the welcome page.

This training is designed to help faculty and staff:

  • Understand behaviors that are prohibited at Mason;
  • Identify concerning behaviors that are common precursors to violence or self-harm;
  • Have knowledge of which behaviors and crimes must be reported to the institution in accordance with federal, state, and university regulations and policies;
  • Know how to report observed or potential acts of violence and crimes to the university so that appropriate interventions can be applied if necessary; and
  • Be familiar with the resources and support available to those who experience or observe violence on campus.
