Update on indirect (F&A) distribution

A policy change announced by the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) states that effective July 1, 2022, new proposal submissions and awards will no longer allocate 2% of facilities and administrative (F&A) costs - also known as "indirects" - for the Biocontainment Research Lab (BRL).

All active awards will keep the original indirect distribution (including BRL portion) through the life of the award. For new proposals, the distribution will be established based on the normal distribution (less BRL 2%). For new awards originally proposed with the BRL portion included, but awarded after July 1, 2022, OSP will allocate the full 2% BRL portion to the dean of the lead unit for the award.

This policy will increase the distribution of recovered indirects to CHSS from 34.3% to 35%. More information about the CHSS F&A guidelines and university policy is found on the CHSS Research Policies webpage
