How did you choose your degree program?

The COVID pandemic influenced me to become involved in a field focused on helping others and that’s how I discovered Human Development. I realized the importance of community outreach and welfare and wanted to be able to support others.

How did your academic experiences in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences impact you?

They made me well-rounded and gave me a worldly perspective into real life issues. I feel like these classes and experiences have made me a capable individual and that I can share my knowledge with others.

What accomplishment(s) during your time at Mason are you most proud of?

I received the Community Engagement Medallion from the SAIL office, was a Learning Community Resident Assistant for 3 years, and made the Dean’s List 4 times.

Are there faculty or staff members who made a difference during your Mason career?

  • Carol Petty (SOCI 303) inspiring class and helped me to look at assignments from a real world perspective, not just as class work
  • Susan Burns (HDFS 499) very helpful guiding me through my internship and very supportive of future career goals
  • Diana Yacob (HDFS 498) very supportive and encouraging

What are your current career plans following graduation? What are your long-term career goals?

I hope to attend an Accelerated Bachelors in Nursing program and earn a second degree. Then, I would like to pursue a graduate degree and go on to be a Nurse Practitioner, specializing in pediatric care.
