Study Leave Review Process and Review Criteria

Study Leave Reviews are conducted by a Study Leave Review Committee comprised of previous Tenured Instructional Faculty Study Leave recipients and the Associate Dean for Research. Recommendations from the Study Leave Review Committee are submitted to the Dean for final award decisions.
Study leaves will be awarded on the basis of the quality of the proposed work, the quality of the proposal and a record of scholarly work to date. The mere exercise of teaching or service does not warrant a study leave by itself. The number of study leaves awarded is contingent on the amount of support provided by the Provost.
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences receives many more applications than can be funded in an academic year. In recent years, about half of the proposals submitted have been awarded a Study Leave for Tenured Instructional Faculty.
All faculty who meet eligibility criteria may apply. However, preference will be given to applicants seeking their first tenured study leave, or for applicants with a longer elapsed time since a prior Faculty Study Leave.
