What activities were you involved in during your time at Mason that impacted you?

Student Media has been a part of my story since my very first chapter at George Mason. I joined  Volition Literary & Arts Journal during my first semester, and a year later became the Executive Editor, a position I served in for two years. I simultaneously worked as a member of the Comm Team for three years. Currently, I am the Copy Editor of Storyline, GMU's new screenwriting journal. My leadership in these organizations led to the opportunity to attend the 2023 College Media Association Conference in New York CityOutside of the Student Media, I was also involved in the theater community at Mason. I worked as the Mason Players Marketing Apprentice, was an assistant director for Love’s Labours, and directed a play in the Players4Change For Your Consideration Festival. Last summer, I had the opportunity to take my passion for the arts overseas, and participated in the UK Literature and Film study abroad program!

Did you have a favorite class or professor?

Advance Fiction Writing was my favorite class. My favorite Professor is Professor Alexia Arthurs. Her feedback always leaves me feeling inspired to keep writing! I am happy to have her as my honors thesis advisor.

What is your most memorable moment at Mason?

My most memorable moment at Mason is reciting poetry at the Black Excellence Gala as a freshman. The gala was my first time reciting poetry in front of such a large audience. I was so nervous about performing at the time, but I have since become a staple performer at events in Mason’s Black community, such as Africa Night and the BLACC & NPHC Women’s History Month Luncheon. Reciting poetry at events has been a privilege, and an incredible way for me to stay involved in my community!

What is your next step? What are your future plans?

This fall, I will be pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration in Writing for Children and Young Adults at The New School in NYC!

As you are reflecting on your time at Mason, what is one piece of advice you would give a student who is just starting off on their Mason journey?

Take advantage of all the different extracurricular activities available on campus! Being involved in Student Media and Mason Players not only improved my professional skills, but it also provided me with the opportunity to explore my interests outside of academia and build community. My involvement on campus has resulted in an enriched and, more importantly, fun college experience!
