Preparing to Apply

Mason undergraduate students who have completed 60 credits toward the bachelor’s degree are invited to apply.  Prior to submitting your application, meet with the Bachelor’s/Accelerated Master’s (BAM) Coordinatordirector of your undergraduate program and with the director of the master’s program.

Applicants are required to:

  • Schedule a meeting with the Bachelor's/Accelerated Master's BAM Coordinator, Dr. Michele Greet, to confirm eligibility requirements and admission process details
  • Have completed at least two 300-level art history courses with a minimum grade of B+
  • Have and maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.50
  • Be familiar with the policies for accelerated master's programs
  • Submit the Transition Form by the last day to add in the final semester of the undergraduate program.

Please be aware that if the student's GPA is below 3.5 at graduation, they will not be allowed to transition into the MA program.

Instructions for Applying

1.    Meet with the BAM (Bachelors Accelerated Masters) Coordinator to complete the BAM Advising form. This form allows the BAM Coordinator to suggest appropriate graduate level coursework for qualified applicants to pursue as undergraduates in anticipation of being admitted into the BAM program.

Both the BAM Coordinator and student must sign the BAM Advising form. Students upload the signed and completed form to the online admissions application.

2.     Submit your official admissions application by clicking the large green button titled "Start Your Application" located below. The additional required materials for the application are outlined in the chart above titled "Program Specific Requirements."

The Goals Statement is usually about one to two pages describing your professional and/or research goals, as well as any relevant experience in the field of Art History.

3.     At the beginning of the semester in which you will be graduating from the BA program, BAM Art History students must meet with the BAM Coordinator to complete the BAM Transition Form

The BAM Transition Form must be signed by the student, the undergraduate program director, and the graduate director and must be submitted to the Associate Director of Graduate Enrollment in the CHSS Graduate Academic Affairs Office as an email attachment no later than the Last Day to Add Classes in the student's final undergraduate semester.

Post Application

The application is processed by the Office of Graduate Admissions. If approved, students will receive a notification from the Office of Graduate Admissions. During the final semester of the undergraduate program, students must submit their completed Transition Form to their undergraduate advisor, graduate advisor, and the CHSS Graduate Admissions Office. Upon undergraduate degree conferral and successful transition from the accelerated master’s program, students will receive an official decision letter from the Office of Graduate Admissions for the term they officially begin the master’s program.

The official date for the start of your master’s degree is the semester immediately following your undergraduate graduation. Upon transition to your master’s degree you will be subject to all graduate academic policies.

Accelerated master’s students must graduate from their undergraduate program in the semester specified on their application to the accelerated degree program. Changes to the timeline for conferral of the undergraduate degree should be approved by the graduate program director. Students must meet the University’s accelerated master’s program policies.

Failure to meet the terms of admission will result in termination from the accelerated master’s program.
