George Mason University faculty interested in pursuing a novel research project in conjunction with colleagues at one of the other 4-VA schools in Virginia are encouraged to respond to the annual 4-VA@Mason Collaborative Research Grant (CRG) call for proposals. The CRGs, which provide funding for up to $20,000, are designed to promote inter-university collaborations that leverage the strengths of each institution to improve education and research outcomes. The grants were created to encourage the development of baseline projects in the sciences and humanities and to help secure future external funding.
Other members of the 4-VA collaborative are Christopher Newport University, the College of William and Mary, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, Radford University, the University of Virginia, Virginia Military Institute, and Virginia Tech. These partner institutions may support Co-PI research with complementary funding from their campus 4-VA office.
The application link for proposals is posted on the 4-VA@Mason grants page, which includes associated policies and procedures, as well as examples of successful proposals. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until February 13, 2026, with awarded grant funding available in July 2026.
Faculty interested in applying for the 4-VA@Mason Collaborative Research Grants should submit a CHSS Pre-Award Request for Assignment Form.
