The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has released two new notices that may impact any upcoming grant applications.
First, NIH has announced that they are updating the effective date for the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy. It will now go into effect on July 1st, 2025. According to the NIH, this is aimed at increasing transparency regarding research and research findings. To see the Director of NIH’s comments on this change, please visit the NIH website.
Second, NIH has updated their policy on subaward. Effective May 1st, 2025, NIH will no longer issue awards to domestic or foreign entities (new, renewal, or non-competing continuation) that include a subaward to a foreign entity. Additionally, they will negotiate new, renewal, or non-competing awards to remove subawards to foreign entities, and allow the funds to be rebudgeted for use by the prime recipient if the work can be done domestically. For more information on this change, please visit the NIH Website.
