Global Affairs announces colloquium series: “Global Actors in War”

For the academic year 2024-2025, the Global Affairs colloquium series will examine how various actors are involved in global wars and to what ends. The inspiration comes from GLOA students who have raised questions about who does what about ongoing global wars, violence, and genocide and what else can be done.

Titled “Global Actors in War,” the series will host distinguished speakers from diverse disciplines focusing on the role of various global actors, such as the UN, corporations, media, and peace activists, in perpetuating or resisting war, genocide, and violence. Their insights will help us better understand the failure of international laws and institutions in the face of drastic global wars and the efforts of alternative actors such as mediators and activists.

As an interdisciplinary program that offers courses on global issues and their regional and local implications, GLOA is proud to engage with pressing contemporary issues with this timely series. The monthly colloquium meetings will be held on Zoom on Wednesdays between 12:00 and 1:15 pm in the fall semester. The series will be open to all faculty members, students, and staff. More info will soon be available at the GLOA website at globalaffairs.gmu.edu and on Global Affairs Instagram
