2025 NEH summer stipends deadline approaching

Sponsor Deadline September 18, 2024 - CHSS deadlines are earlier

The National Endowment for the Humanities’ Summer Stipends grant program provides $8,000 to individuals to support two consecutive months of full-time summer support on humanities projects. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources.

There are several significant changes for the 2025 Summer Stipends competition that affect applicant eligibility and Mason’s internal review process:

  1. Due to Mason’s recent designation as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution, nominations by the university’s nominating official (Dean Ann Ardis) are no longer required, and more humanities scholars from Mason may submit applications.
  2. Previous recipients of Summer Stipends and NEH fellowship recipients are not eligible to apply for Summer Stipends awards.  Applicants should review guidelines carefully to ensure they are eligible to apply.

NEH will host a Sumer Stipends Application Writing Tips Webinar on August 21, 2024, at 2PM. (Register here). There may still be time for an internal narrative review from CHSS, but potential applicants should email chssadr@gmu.edu if they plan to submit an application.

Assistance from CHSS Pre-Award is available to help CHSS applicants prepare their application package which will be submitted by applicants directly using Grants.gov. CHSS applicants need to submit a CHSS Pre-Award Request for Assistance (PRA form) to receive help with technical aspects and then submitting application via Grants.gov no later than August 19th.

The NEH Application deadline is September 18, 2024, although applicants should submit their final proposals on Grants.gov at least two weeks before that date to avoid issues in submitting their applications.
