Institute for Humanities and the Arts Day of Strategic Design

Friday, November 6, 2026 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST
Merten Hall, 1201

The Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Impact invites faculty and staff to participate in a campus-wide charrette-style event focused on the future Institute for Humanities and the Arts (IHA).

This is the university community’s opportunity to provide feedback on draft mission and vision statements for the proposed IHA and to contribute to the development of the broader charter proposal. Through a series of collaborative sessions, participants will help shape the institute’s priorities, structure, programs, and activities.

The program will begin with remarks from Interim Vice President for Research Aurali Dade followed by an introduction of the IHA planning committee.

Participants will attend three of the following four facilitated discussion sessions:

  • Table Session I: Leadership, Governance, and Structure
  • Table Session II: Strategic Objectives
  • Table Session III: Research and Activities
  • Table Session IV: Programs and Events

These sessions will provide opportunities to share ideas about how the institute can support research, scholarship, creative practice, and community engagement across George Mason University, as well as to identify potential contributions to its future success.

Coffee and lunch will be provided.

RSVP is required.

A schedule will be provided in advance and participants will have the opportunity to engage in up to three facilitated discussion sessions.
