Did you know …?
- Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.
- There is no substitute for human blood! It cannot be manufactured.
- Only 38% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, and less than 10% actually do. Please consider being one of the 10%!
- One pint of blood can save three lives. Whole blood can be separated into its specific components of red cells, plasma and platelets and can help multiple people.
- Each year over 15,000 children across the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer (that's about 43 new patients each day). Many of the children with cancer in our area are battling a form of leukemia. From their initial diagnosis to being treated with chemotherapy, these young children require frequent blood and platelet transfusions.
- Childbirth is truly a miracle. One in every 533 moms will face a high-risk pregnancy complication called Placenta Accreta which causes severe blood loss (hemorrhage) after delivery which requires a blood transfusion.
Whatever YOUR reason to donate at the CHSS Faculty and Staff Blood Drive, we hope you will continue to donate regularly to help keep the supply at a stable level. If you donate whole blood, you can donate up to SIX TIMES per year (every 56 days)! If all blood donors who are eligible donated, blood shortages would be rare.
Thank you for making a difference in our community! Register now for a time to donate blood!
